Beyond the Building
NHS Managers need to "think beyond the inside of the building" when planning the design and location of services, according to the Government’s adviser on architecture and design. The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment has recently published a report Future Health: Sustainable places for health and well-being – intended to encourage designs for buildings that are both green and promote the health of patients. The report identifies the creation of "healthy networks" by locating health facilities alongside other public amenities such as shopping centres, and making sure local services can be reached on foot by the bulk of the communities they serve.
